Why unstructured notes are the bottleneck
Pediatric rehab clinics measure utilization, not how kids actually move through care.
Our capstone partner runs a pediatric speech-language clinic. Kids stay for months or years. Some need a handful of sessions; others cycle through multiple treatment blocks. The clinic tracks appointments and billing fine. What they do not track well is how treatment needs change over time, which pathways eat the most clinician hours, or who is ready to step down to a lighter service level.
Almost all of that lives in unstructured session notes. Thousands of them. Larissa and Professor Hossein framed the project as a planning tool: extract signals from notes, join them with historical utilization, and feed predictive models that estimate how many appointments a child will need and where scheduling bottlenecks form.
That is the gap NoteWorth is trying to close. Not a chatbot for clinicians. A way to turn notes into numbers the operations side can actually plan with.
